This course will take you through the basics of medieval and early renaissance longsword fighting. It is suitable for everyone regardless of age or physical ability, and whilst it works well as a standalone module it is perfect for setting you up for continued training at the club, either in longsword or in one of our other classes.
Everything you will learn is taken directly from historical source material, this is what helps define what we do as “HEMA” (Historical European Martial Arts) as opposed to things like Buhurt or re-enactment combat. Nothing is made up or exists solely for the purpose of sport (although there is a growing tournament scene that you can take part in once you’ve completed the course!)
The price of the eight week course is £80 payable on booking. This is refundable up to two weeks before the start of the course, after that your booking can be moved to a future course if you’re unable to attend.
The course content is duplicated across two nights, so you have a choice of Wednesday between 19:00 and 20:30 or Thursday between 20:00 and 21:30, starting on the 1st/2nd of July, with a break on the 22nd/23rd of July as the instructor is away teaching at an event. The final lesson of the course will be on the 26th/27th of August.
After you’ve completed the course you’re more than welcome to continue training as a regular member on the shiny new longsword class (Thursdays 20:00 – 21:30) or any of our other classes.
